What is Small Farm Consulting?

Small Farm Consulting is a business that provides friendly, up-to-date and easily understood land management advice to owners and purchasers of small rural acreage.

Small Farm Consulting provides a range of services designed to assist those considering purchasing or already managing rural properties, against leaving disappointed and at great expense.

For many who are new to life in rural communities, the costs associated with maintaining small acreage can become daunting in the first couple of years and it is then that some realise that expectations can often exceed skills, knowledge, experience or even the productive capacity of the land.

To address this Small Farm Consulting has designed a range of services that ensures property owners are able to minimise the risks associated with living on small acreage and more importantly, to maximise the enjoyment.

Small Farm Consulting is managed by Jane Tracy who has many years of providing service and support to owners of small lifestyle farms and bush blocks.  Jane is a qualified Trainer and Assessor and has a Bachelor Degree in Land Management.

Weeds and Your Legal Responsibilities

As I have travelled between the coast and the central and southern tablelands over the last few months many plants have been seen flowering.  Are you able to tell the difference between the good ones and the bad ones?  During spring, summer and autumn it is often difficult to tell the difference unless you know what to look for.

Plants that are weeds are those that are undesirable to all landscapes.  Noxious weeds are those undesirable plants that pose a threat to humans, the environment and agricultural practices.  These weeds are 'declared' noxious depending on their class or classification under various state legislation (the Noxious Weeds Act of NSW) and require control or management by landholders or land managers.

Local Government Councils or County Councilsand some government departments are delegated to undertake a number of roles.  This includes inspection of private land, controlling weeds on land under their control or management and enforcement of provisions of legislation.  Enforcement can include fines, prosecutions or entry onto the land to undertake the necessary weed control work with the costs incurred by the landowner.

To assist landowners who are new to managing rural land or those who visit their properties only occasionally or even those who are just too busy to either do the work or find someone to do it for them; Small Farm Consulting can help you fulfil you legislative obligations.

Small Farm Consulting can develop and oversee an appropriate control or management plan for 12 months or a number of years thereby removing those stresses from landowners.
